Why Choose NLHS?

Why Choose Northland Lutheran?

Counting the Cost

What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?  Matthew 16:26.  Young people in America as a percentage of the population at this time in our country's history, are in an unprecedented battle for their spiritual lives.  Survey's of teen's show single digit percentages for those who believe in absolute truth.  Record numbers are leaving the church after high school, including many in the WELS.  As a parent, what greater goal and priority in life is there than raising our children to know, to fear, and to love the Lord?

Our Instruction

Instruction at Northland is twofold, that which is instilled through classroom curriculum and that which is modeled and reinforced by teachers and staff.  Discipleship building is Northland’s primary desired outcome.   Cultivating Christian character while challenging students with a well planned and executed academic program, provides our students and their parents with a blessing that will carry them through this life and into the next.  Young people will receive a Christian Education where subjects are taught in context of the eternal truths of scripture that point them upward to our Sovereign Lord and outward to others to share the good news.  What will not be found in our instruction are the false philosophies of this world.  Instruction in Science, History, and Religion classes present the greatest contrast to a secular education.  And yet it does not stop there as teachers in all other subjects will bring in the influence of their faith as they instruct our students.

Our Extracuricular Activities

Northland offers a wide variety of activities for students to enjoy, and further use and develop their God given talents.  Ninety five percent of our student body chooses to participate in one or more of the following extracurricular offerings; Band, Choir, Drama, Northwinds, Forensics, Soccer, Basketball, Softball, Baseball, Volleyball, Track.  Our coaches and program leaders take the additional time they have with students in these non classroom settings to develop their character and the relationships between players and coaches.  The Christian witness presented by our students outside the school walls is always noted by opposing coaches, referees, fans, and others watching student conduct.

Our Families And Students

Like our supporters, the parents and families at Northland must sacrifice in order to have their children attend our school.  Not only is there a financial commitment, but many families travel from outlying communities to take advantage of this Christian educational opportunity.  There is a like-mindedness that takes seriously the New Testament words from Paul where parents are reminded to bring children up in the “training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 4:9).

Students have a unique opportunity to develop strong and lasting relationships with teachers, other students, and their families.  A student to teacher ratio of 10:1 creates a nurturing environment where all students have opportunity to receive individual attention when needed.  Each student has opportunity to receive an education that will keep them growing in their faith and also prepare them for furthering their academic careers, enter a trade school, enter the workforce, and/or manage a home and family.

Our Supporters

Northland has a rich history of faithful believers who sacrifice desirable things of this world in turn for the eternal value their investments have in providing young people an opportunity for a Christian Education.  More than half of our annual operating expenses come from contributors and volunteers for program support like Dime & Dollar, the Scrip program, or from funding support generously offered through programs like Simply Giving, Perseverance and other fund raising activities.   Countless hours of time and talent are provided each year by this committed group of believers who actively live out the command in Deuteronomy where God reminds his people to stay strong in His word.  Members of our church body also see this faith based education as a way to honor the commitment they make as a body of believers during baptism to see that these young people are supported in their spiritual development.
