Northland Lutheran High School
Wausau, Wisconsin

A Humble Start

In March of 1979 the Northland Lutheran High School formed an association and called John Schultz as the first Administrator and two teachers.  Freshman and sophomore classes were established, and that September Northland began.

The first school site was in Merrill Wisconsin.  It consisted of portable classrooms which at times necessitated the administrator to get on the roof and shovel and often times for the hallways to be shoveled.  In spite of the humble start, Northland preached the Word and equipped students for eternity.

Northland Relocates and the Years Flew By

Crisis came in the form of instability and the uncertainty of a firm direction. To gain strength from a stronger church base, Northland relocated to a temporary facility in Wausau in 1987.  A building owned by St. Mary Catholic Church of Wausau would be our home for many years to come.  It was a very old building and not very impressive from the outside but it was a school--our school for the next eleven years.  It was a good home with a good landlord.

A Humble Present

On August 22, 1999 Northland dedicated it’s first permanent facility.  God blessed our school with a new building, room for sporting facilities, and a future expansion in Kronnenwetter Wisconsin , which is just south of Wausau .  Enrollment has ranged from 90-140 students with recent enrollments holding around 100.  Our young people come from a wide geographic area.  Students travel on Northland busses daily from Neillsville, Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point , Plover, Birnamwood, Tomahawk, Eagle River , Rhinelander, Merrill, Medford , Athens , Marathon , and Wausau area.  Throughout it’s entire existence, God has blessed Northland Lutheran High School in it’s ministry to His young people.
